Lotte Grotholt (1998) started playing the violin at the age of 10. In 2013 she got accepted in Youth Class of ArteZ Conservatorium, where she studied with Sylvia van der Grinten. After six months she decieded to switch to the viola. In 2015 she got accepted in the preliminary year of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Here she studied with Marjolein Dispa. Since 2016 she is a Bachelor student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She studies with Marjolein Dispa. In 2019/2020 she invited on a Erasmus Exchange year to Hochschüle für Musik Detmold. Here she will study with Veit Hertenstein.
She has followed masterclasses including teachers such as Nobuko Imai, Thomas Riebl, Pauline Sachse, Bruno Guiranna,Hariolf Schlitig, Peijn Xu and Harmut Rhode. She has played at various festivals, includingVirtuose e Belcanto, Aurora Music Festival and Allegro Vivo.
Lotte has been playing in various orchestras since her childhood. She has been playing with the Netherlands youth orchestras for several years: first with the JON and then with the NJO. She has also played with the Romanian Youth Orchestra on exchange.
Lotte regularly performs with chamber music ensembles, including permanent and temporary ensembles. She plays in het Oostertrio and het Duo Due. She recently produced TRUST with het Oostertrio (a collaboration between various students within the AHK). This was premiered in Splendor (Amsterdam) on the 13th of june. With these ensembles she regularly performs throughout the Netherlands.
In addition to modern viola, she also has a preference for Baroque viola, which she studies with Shunske Sato and Sayuri Yamataga at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She also regularly receives lessons from Lucy van Dael. In April 2019 she participated in the Ton Koopman Academy, where she received masterclasses from Ton Koopman and Lucy van Dael. She also plays in the Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra.
Lotte has twice won an incentive prize at the Princess Christina Composition Competition (in 2014 and 2016). Thanks to this prize, her piece was performed in 2016 by the Trio Brulesco in The Hague and Sint Niklaas. She also won the Govert van Wijn prize with the Marcante Ensemble during the Maassluise music week of 2017.
The (modern) instrument that she plays is a Georg Aman (1704). In addition, she plays them with a bow built by S. Finkl, which she was able to purchase with the help of the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrumentenfonds. Lotte has a baroque viola bow (K. van Heemert) and a Baroque Viola (G. Francois) made available to her by the Nationale Muziekinstrumentenfons.
