Biography
Lotte Grotholt (1998) is a passionate musician. In 2020 she obtained her bachelor's degree in Viola at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Here she studied both in the preliminary year and in the bachelor program with Marjolein Dispa. During her studies she also followed an Erasmus exchange year at HFM Detmold with Veit Hertenstein. She has been studying with him since October 2020 at the master’s program in Detmold.
Lotte has taken master classes with, among others: Nobuko Imai, Thomas Riebl, Pauline Sachse, Bruno Giuranna, Hariolf Schlichtig, Peijun Xu and Harmut Rhode. Lotte has played in many different orchestras, including the Jeugdorkesten Nederland, the NNO and the Jong Metropole. She has also played at various foreign festivals, such as Virtuose e Belcanto, the Aurora Music Festival and Allegro Vivo.
In addition to modern viola, she has a preference for Baroque viola, which she studies with Shunske Sato and Sayuri Yamagata at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She also regularly receives lessons from Lucy van Dael. In April 2019 she took part in the Ton Koopman Academy with, among others, master classes Ton Koopman and Lucy van Dael. She also regularly plays in the Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra.
Lotte performs with chamber music ensembles, permanent as well as temporary ensembles. She plays in the Barok Bende and the Oostertrio. With these ensembles she performs throughout the Netherlands. She has already played various projects with these ensembles, such as TRUST and FAUST. The Oostertrio was also part of the NJO Muziekzomer 2020.
Lotte has a passion and talent for entrepreneurship. She is the artistic director of the IN DOORS chamber music festival. Together with the IN DOORS team she has set up the concert series OUT DOORS: concerts at special locations in Twente. The next editions of both festivals are already planned. She is also the business leader of the Barok Bende. Various concert series have been set up and planned for 2021, including the MARIA project and the ZitZak sessions.
Lotte has twice won an incentive prize at the Princess Christina Composition Competition (in 2014 and 2016). Thanks to this prize, her piece was performed in 2016 by the Trio Burlesco in The Hague and Sint Niklaas. She also won the Govert van Wijn prize with the Marcante Ensemble during the Maassluisse music week of 2017.
The modern viola she plays is a Bernd Hiller (2019). She also plays with a bow built by S. Finkl. She was able to purchase this with the help of the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrumentenfonds. Lotte has received a Baroque viola bow (K. van Heemert) and a Baroque Viola (G. Francois) from the Nationale Muziekinstrumentenfonds.
